My Family Tree Google Map
I am doing a unit on family right now in my classroom, so my idea for a lesson plan is to use a map to locate where the students family lives in the United States, or in the world. First, I would have them create a family tree and then locate their relatives on the map. To take it one step further they could measure in miles how far away the relatives live from their homes. They could figure out who lives closest and farthest away. Above is an example of where my family lives.

Your map is a great way to incorporate many subjects into one project. From learning about your family and their physical locations relative to your own to figuring out mileage from place to place, this activity sounds like it would appeal to most any student by incorporating various subjects and interests. This lesson would also be very easy to differentiate for various students and their specific needs. Maybe it's just me, but I even want to do it just for me!
Thanks for sharing the idea - I dont know if I ever would have thought of it!
